Ysgol Llanfairpwll is a Sustrans Bike It school and is part of an exciting national initiative which works to increase the number of children and young people travelling actively to school. Gwen Thomas is our Sustrans Bike It officer and she works closely with the school, children and parents to increase opportunities for walking, scootering and cycling to school. Here are some of the reasons why:

It is a great way of getting some of the 60 minutes of daily exercise as recommended by health experts.

  • Cycling and scooting are lots of fun, and help young people become more independent and develop vital road safety skills which keep them safe for life.
  • It is good for the environment and helps cut down traffic congestion and air pollution in the area around the school.
  • There are lots of walking and cycling routes around Llanfairpwll waiting to be used and there are plenty of safe ways of coming to school without the use of a car.

Bike It at Ysgol Llanfairpwll is delivered by the sustainable transport charity Sustrans, in partnership with Anglesey Council. We will work together to remove as many barriers as possible so that everyone can enjoy cycling, scooting or walking to school.

Bike It is about making it fun by running lots of events and practical activities, taking part in national competitions and challenges and much more!

The school recently achieved the Bronze Award from Bike It. We now look forward to working towards achieving the Silver and Gold Award. We very much appreciate all the help received from the parents in working towards our goals.
